Field Gun Competition

The most spectacular event at HMS Collingwood's open day is the the historic Royal Navy Field Gun Competition.

Crews representing units of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines as well as the British Army and Royal Air Force, will compete and as such the event is well supported by the senior ranks of all three Services.

Each crew of 18 highly disciplined, motivated, and physically fit field gunners, races to assemble an antique field gun and run with it, disassembling and reassembling as the competition requires, before dramatically dragging the gun home, maintaining the spirit of the Royal Navy’s contribution to the relief of Ladysmith.

History of the Brickwood Trophy

Brickwood, the Sunshine Brewers of Portsmouth, whose business in 1970 stretched from Sussex to Dorset and north towards London, was once a familiar name in the area.

Today the brewery is only a memory, although many pubs, especially in Portsmouth, have preserved their Brickwood frontages. But the name lives on with the annual Field Gun competition for the magnificent Brickwood Trophy, which dates back 100 years.

Deed of Arms Medieval Show

Deeds of Arms is a Hampshire based society of historical players specialising in the Gladiatorial Combat of the 2nd Century AD, Stage Combat and the fait d’armes of the 1360s.

NEW FOR 2015: 19th Century Royal Navy Sailors! Watch a re-enactment of the Battle of Trafalgar!

The team is run entirely by the parents of the children with an elected committee, the aim is to include everyone in making Tigers fun and challenging for all of the families involved.

Big Noise Samba

Big Noise began in September 2007 when two samba players had a vision to form a community Samba Band in Gosport.

We began with the help of Gosport Carnival Factory, within one year we formed a committee and became self funded and have survived since! Our aim was to bring together like minded people who enjoy music and drumming.

Since the band began we have played at such a variety of gigs from local school fetes to Rhythm Tree Festival on the Isle of Wight.
