A Royal Naval Dental Cadetship will not only finance your degree but guarantees a Vocational Dental Practitioner training position within the accredited Defence Dental Agency Scheme. As a Dental Officer it will be your role to maintain the highest standards of dental care for Military personnel whether this is at home or more challenging environments afloat or abroad.

This includes a salary of £14,301 rising to £17,881, tuition fees, London allowance (if applicable), a book allowance of £50 per annum and opportunity to take advantage of all sport and adventure training facilities. During your degree you will have the opportunity to be a member of one of the University Royal Navy Units.
What you’ll do:
Your Short Career Commission (SCC) of 7 years will commence with full registration with the General Dental Council with a starting salary of £52,225. In this phase you will be included on the New Entry Dental Officer Course which includes 14 weeks completing the Initial Officer Training at Britannia Royal Naval College. After this training you will go to HMS Nelson in Portsmouth where you will be introduced to Defence Services routines and administration before commencing the Defence Dental Services vocational training scheme. This will include a complete a year of structured training supervised by an accredited trainer.
Your career:
During the remainder of your SCC you will work predominantly in our base port clinics. You will have the opportunity to serve abroad, at sea or with the Royal Marines. As an accredited General Defence Practitioner you will have the opportunity to apply for a medium commission. Throughout your career as a Dental Officer you will have further opportunities to develop specialist skills in areas such as periodontics or endodontics.
