Variety is very much central to a life in the Royal Navy. As well as unique opportunities for travel, adventure, training and teamwork, a career with the Royal Navy offers many practical benefits too.

We’re going to ask a lot of you, so in return you can expect a great deal from us. Listed below are some of the many benefits that you can expected to see once you become part of this historic family.

Pay and Security:

Pay in the Royal Navy compares well with salaries in civilian life and not only do you get your basic pay but you will also qualify for extra money and bonuses for certain specialist jobs and time served. We provide stability for you and your family which is rarely seen in civilian life and if your circumstances change and you decide life in the Naval Service is not for you, you can leave by giving us notice.

Medical and Holidays:

We provide all of your medical and dental care free of charge regardless of rank, job or where you’re serving. You'll get six weeks paid holiday each year plus public holidays. When you return from operations you can expect a long period of leave too. If you have a child with your partner you’ll get two weeks paternity leave on full pay.

Accommodation:

When you're working and living on shore, we offer a choice of accommodation which we help pay for, including single accommodation. We also offer rented housing for married couples, people in civil partnerships and families with children. Whilst you're on operations your accommodation is free.

When you leave:

If you decide to leave, you can take advantage of our generous resettlement package, which currently includes up to 11 weeks paid holiday, including financial help while you find a new job and settle back into civilian life. Depending on time served, we provide one of the most generous pension packages offered in the UK. What’s even better is that you don’t even contribute to it. "Life in the Royal Navy is more like a hobby than a job, getting paid is a bonus!’’
