Sport and fitness are central to life in the Royal Marines. Because, when we say we work hard and play hard - we really mean it.
Sport and Recreation
See the World:
The desire and ability to see the world is still one of the main attractions of joining the Royal Marines. We operate in every part of the world, offering sights and experiences you won’t find in any guidebook or holiday brochure. Once the work is done you are free to explore the country you are in.
A Sense of Adventure:
We know you love a challenge or wouldn’t have chosen the Royal Marines as a career. Once you have received your Green Beret it’s time to reset your goals for adventurous training. You can pick any activity you want and whether it’s something you’ve done before or an activity you’ve always wanted to try - we will try and help you achieve it.
Sport:
Everyone is encouraged to play sport for the fitness benefits and the social life that goes with it. We provide free, high quality sports facilities at all our establishments on shore and on most ships so that you can play at every level, from beginner to representing your country at the Olympics. Royal Marines are all natural team players, but we are also single-minded and constantly push ourselves and redefine our limits - this makes us highly competitive and gives us a play to win mentality. But remember you are a Royal Marines Commando first and an athlete second, so it won’t always be possible to release you, but we will give you every chance we can to take part in sport to whatever level your talent and determination takes you.
Time to Relax:
Even Royal Marines Commandos need to take a break occasionally. Our accommodation areas have TV’s, DVD players and stereo systems so that you can do just that - we also provide quiet rooms to study.
