Phase One Basic Military Skills
TRAINING PHASE ONE - BASIC MILITARY SKILLS
Keeping you fit for the first fifteen weeks in the Royal Marines Band Service, you’ll learn the skills you need to become an effective member of the Royal Marines team. First and foremost, we are a military unit, so we need to make sure you’re all fully trained- in case you need to be deployed on operations. Your training will concentrate on the basics of soldiering and improving your physical fitness, with a lot of time spent in the gym and swimming pool.
Performing in the band and the workload that comes with it can be demanding, so you need to be fit for this as well as for your military role.
Learning the drill:
Our immaculate drill makes us unique, and part of your training will involve mastering this art. You’ll need to march correctly – without your instrument at first – then you’ll move on to master the altogether greater challenge of marching and playing at the same time.
The basics:
Initial military training is conducted over a period of fifteen weeks, mainly based at the Commando training Centre Royal Marines, Lympstone. During this period you will be taught first aid, weapon training, navigation training, drill and of course fitness training.
Throughout the fifteen weeks, you will undergo a series of field exercises, preparing you for your military role in the future.
