Wherever. Whenever.

The Royal Fleet Auxiliary is a sophisticated global operation with a fleet of highly specialised ships. We use advanced techniques that allow us to replenish and support Royal Navy warships all over the world, any time they need crucial supplies.

Do you have the management, planning and teamwork skills needed for a career in the Royal Fleet Auxiliary? If you do you’ll have the opportunity to travel the world and experience the rush of adrenaline in your day to day work – all in a civilian service.

How to join

Do you have what it takes to keep the Royal Navy effective all over the world? Take a look at what’s involved in our joining process.

Life as an Officer

Officers are the Royal Fleet Auxiliary’s management team, providing the leadership and taking the decisions needed to fulfil our many and varied jobs. You’ll also be responsible for the training and development, welfare, morale and ultimately the lives of the people under your command.

Life as a Rating

Your ship isn’t just your workplace. And supplying the Royal Navy isn’t just your job. You’ll get generous paid leave and have plenty of opportunity to play every sport imaginable. What’s more, job security is unrivalled and the salaries compare really well with equivalent Merchant Navy jobs.

Case Study

NAME:
Matt
ROLE:
Deck Officer
RANK:
Officer

In the Royal Fleet Auxiliary,  we have the best of both worlds. We are Ministry of Defence civil servants and we use Royal Navy training, courses and establishments.

I had to make a decision between the MOD police or the Royal Fleet Auxiliary. Choosing between standing on a gate for 12 hours a day or travelling the world wasn’t a hard decision.

Cadetships

By joining us on one of our Cadetship Schemes, you don’t have to choose between gaining higher qualifications and earning decent money on your way to a career as a Royal Fleet Auxiliary Deck or Engineering Officer.

RFA training

Much of your training in the RFA will be on the job. But you’ll also be fully funded to gain your Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) certificates. And if you’re an officer, you’ll have the chance to be funded while you gain higher degrees and management qualifications.
