RFA Motorman
Although we still use the term Motorman for engineering ratings in the Royal Fleet Auxiliary, this job is open to both men and women. If you're mechanically minded, don't mind being outdoors in all weathers and like a job with plenty of variety, you'll fit right into the team. On a Royal Fleet Auxiliary ship, even routine work is anything but everyday. As well as the engines, you'll be working on everything from cranes to lifts and other deck gear. You'll need to have an interest in electrical and mechanical systems and equipment so that you understand how to maintain the areas you are responsible for.
