Engineering Technician (Weapons Engineering Submariner)
You and your crewmates will be looking after some of our most formidable weapons on board our submarines. You’ll work with powerful conventional weapons, such as torpedoes and cruise missiles. If you get posted to a Vanguard-class ballistic missile submarine, you’ll be maintaining Trident missiles – the UK’s strategic nuclear deterrent. You’ll also be responsible for the surveillance, communications, radar and sonar systems that allow your submarine to identify and track possible targets, without giving away your own position. Like everyone on board, you’ll be trained to be part of a damage-control and firefighting team. When you’re not at sea, you could be working hands-on at a fleet maintenance unit, or helping to plan maintenance schedules for the entire Submarine Service. Above all, you’ll be a central part of an elite fighting force, respected throughout the Royal Navy and beyond.
