International Partnerships

The Royal Navy and Royal Marines promote stable and co-operative relationships with other maritime nations around the world. They operate and exercise frequently with allies, coalition partners and many others to build the trust and understanding that contributes to stability in regions of interest to the UK.

A global economy requires a common international approach to issues such as terrorism, climate change and competition for natural resources which transcend national boundaries. The Royal Navy can assist the government in this objective by working with other navies to help build their counter terrorism and counter piracy capabilities.

KEY FACTS

• Royal Navy ships operate  with many countries across the Middle East to build their capacity to counter the threat of terrorist attacks.
•The Royal Navy works with the Iraqi government and coalition nations to protect Iraq’s maritime infrastructure, including Iraq’s oil platforms.
• Working with the FCO the Royal Navy engages across West Africa to promote peace and stability, with frequent involvement from ships from APT(N) and APT(S).
•The Royal Navy is building and maintaining partnerships with other navies across the Indian Ocean and Asia Pacific region to foster mutual understanding and continued UK influence.
